Cool off

With the crazy summer temperature hitting 100F this week, here are a few songs for everyone to cool it off. No screamo, emo or punky stuff.

Why it’s important for Germany to win the World Cup 2006

Well, obviously that won’t happen. Italy scored 2 goals at the last minute of the extra time. I’m shattered. Bloody hell~

When Jurgen Klinsmann and Lothar Mattheous lifted the trophy in 1990 on their triumph over Maradona’s Argentina, that moment brought football into my life. That moment, I was made a Germany football fan for life. I love their jersey, their boots, and their style and above all, I love watching Jurgen Klinsmann. Never mind that I was 12 and have no idea what’s a hattrick means. Many great great players came through after 1990 and they all bring creativity and fun into the game. Maradona aside, Germany almost single handedly reinvent the sweeper and playmaker position. Andreas Moeller, Thomas Hassler and Stefan Effenberg are probably one of the few most established playmakers I have ever seen on TV. Of course you can add M.Ballack to the list now, but I don’t think he’s quite there yet.

Another reason why it’s vital for Germany to win is the fact that they play good, fundamental, attacking football. I mean they are probably one of the only team among the 16 2nd rounders (or even the whole tournament) to play with 2 strikers. 4-5-1 formation is like the THING now. So you have this one lone striker up front chasing relentlessly, sometimes blindly, for long balls, up and down. But not Germany: Klinsmann - Riedle, Klinsmann - Bierhoff, Klose - Neuville and now Podolski - Klose are those partnerships that reminds you why it is fun to watch a football game - for the love of the goals. Of course now that they are beaten by a 4-5-1 team, one might say I am just biting a sour grape here.

Maybe I am. Those blardy Italians. But I will be cursing the other team in front of the TV for the black, red and yellow stripes, till my dying day.

See you in 2010, my team.

Yeah, I know, I know. I first saw her in Terms of Endearment, then Super Rookie. The rest is just a tiny heart wrapped in a Christmas box with a sprinkle of lively petals of a pink rose.

Messy return

When you have five very hot girls keep asking you ‘Hey you haven’t update your blog for a while? Busy?’, you know you’re doing something right with your blog. So hopefully with the help of a little messy design realignment, a mascot and some fresh content, I will be able to find myself a reason to start writing again.

The idea of the realignment is sort of my in-denial and prematured attempt to break out of my ’style’. You see, according to some, I have a certain style when it comes to designing for websites. I don’t agree. Here’s how a conversation went with one of the hot girl the other day:

Me: Hey, you want to preview the latest University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s design?
Hot Girl: Sure!
Me: Here you go. http://blabla.xxx
Hot Girl: Haha, you don’t even have to tell me but I know it’s your design. The design is SO YOU.
Me:Uhm.. but I didn’t design it.

While working on the puppylab site, I remembered trying to put a grungy-looking menu in the header and this Hot Girl #2 said “That’s not like you. Your design is simple, clean and elegant. I don’t like the menu”.

Well, I can be dirty-looking, badass and dark too, if I want. There’s no stinkin style that I was trapped into. I’m a hybrid, I’m a hybrid…. (Self-repeat for 100 times).

I also added a new project in my portfolio. It is a green tea club web site. I’d already handed over the final design to the client but right now they are still working on the backend.

Finally, let’s talk about the mascot! I love the mascot :D. Ken of kenart.net’s fame was kind enough to sketch a mascot for me. Well he actually came out with like 15 and asked me to choose. It was tough since the cuteness on each sketch is uniquely personal and beautiful. I was seriously playing with the idea of taking them all. ^_^ Now, if you guys can come out with a name for this little sad cutie….

So what do you think? Think I can pull it off with this newfound, messy art of the dark side? To be honest, I’m not even sure myself.

Tip: You can always switch back to the old style if it’s too messy for you (look for ‘mood’).
