A lof of stuff happens around the world today. In Europe you have the whole Islam caricatures thingie and it is spreading fast across the globe. Then in middle east you have the Iran’s nuclear crisis and as always, the Israel and Palestine and of course, the oil. Turn to Asia you will see China dominates all the headlines from Google censorship to their currency floatation value. And then in US you have President Bush and Pat Robertson. A lot of discussions generated in coffee shops, heated preaches in mosques and churches, intelligent discourses here and there, some people get angry, some people burn things and some people demonstate. People are becoming more socially conscious about the things happening around them - civil rights, war, ethical views and everything from Hollywood to Beirut. It feels like 1970’s again.

I finally finished the last piece of Chan-wook Park’s revenge trilogy. It’s been a very disturbing, torturous yet memorable movie experience. The three movies are sick in a classy way, funny in a dark way and lovely in an ugly way.
Top 3 rawest, most disturbing scenes in the trilogy:
1.) In Old Boy, when Dae-su Oh grabs a live, moving squid (or octopus?) and eats it raw. I lost my appetite for seafood for a good one month after watching that scene.

I decided to power up my photoshop and splashed a couple of high res. wallpapers based on the trilogy. There’re two themes - dark and white. Enjoy.

Every now and then, people say nice things to me that make me pause for a second and realize I’m not such a horrible person at all, and that I’m glad for just having to know them. Depending on which phase of my life you’d met me, I can either be an arrogant bastard or a likable chap. But these heartful and honest things people have said to me span across those many phases of my life and so I thought I’d share, if not for any other reason than to show that simple acts of kindness can make someone’s day. Here’re some of the nicest things people have said to me:
Keep it coming, people. ^__^

My Macbook will have to wait. Car loan can wait too. The same goes to healthy food, utility bills, rent and whatever else deem unnecessary. In fact all things can wait. But not this. Ho Ho Ho.

I’ve just uploaded three batches of photos. The first one was taken during Keat Siang and Weijet’s farewell party. Second batch is from Chinese New Year’s dinner and the last one was taken at my work place. It has been a happy, fun month.
Thanks to Huinee for the photos. Here’re some previews. You can head over to the gallery to view the entire thing, as usual.

Another wonderful recommendation. A great ’snack’ movie.

Psst: Apparently someone from Lincoln, Nebraska has won the $365 millions lottery. Funny how I drove pass the billboard a couple days ago thinking ‘Damn, that’s a lot of money. Maybe I should give it a try….’ Advise to self - Do, dont think.

Man this year’s Oscar is killing me - I don’t know which movie I want to see winning the Best Motion Picture award. Of the worthy list, I’ve watched three of them - Crash, Munich and Brokeback Mountain. They are all really good, provoking, and passionate and actually talk about stuff that matters. I don’t know….I really wish all of them can win THAT BIG ONE together. I came across this one site once that offers to laser cut pure gold brick into whatever freaking shape and size one could imagine for a nominal fee. Just a thought.
But I guess if I really have to choose one, I’m gonna go with Crash - the screenplay is just awesome (it is brought to you by the same guy that wrote Million Dollars Baby) and I wrote about the movie even before I watched it, right after I watched it and now many months after I watched it. I am however somewhat dissappointed that The Constant Gardener is not among the nominees for this award. It is a life-changing movie and deserves all the credits due.

No, this is not going to be a long post :-).
Personally, I look at both Digg and Slashdot as different kind of sites. Stuff like the newest css hacks, javascript functions or Mac gadgets make it to the front page of Digg all the time whereas topics in /. often covers stuff on GPL, nanotech, bioscience and computer-science related topics. Conclusion? They both serve a different kind of audience. Instead of throwing those two sites into a versus-to-versus game, i think they compliment each others existence rather well.

It was almost one year ago I posted about starting my new job at Knowledge Marketing. This was my first job after getting my degree and the experience had been immensely valuable. The people I work with here are super cool and over the last couple of months, the company had started to put together what I think is a very talented web team.
But I believe it is time for me to look for new and fresh challenges in my career. It has always been my interest in learning and understanding user-centric web development. I love the web and in some ways that has been one of the few main reasons why I decided to look elsewhere.
